Social networking sites work to introduce students to ‘new and different kinds of students.’ More than 4 in 10 hope social networking will help students learn to express themselves better creatively. The numbers from the parents are even higher. 3 in 4 parents think that social networking sites could actually improve their students educational and conflict resolution skills. About the same number think it can improve their students’ social skills. That’s a pretty strong statement about the parents expectations.
As for the teachers, I wonder how many of them know what a blog is or some of the other tech that's available out there. I think they need to be trained so they know what we, their students are doing more and more of. They need to be not only trained but active in using these things so they can help their students.
We need to be really careful on what we post, any information put out their is out of our control after we post it. Never post your personal information, such as your cell phone number, address, or the name of your school or school team. Think before posting your photos. Personal photos should not have revealing information remember that posting information about your friends could put them at risk. Protect your friends by not posting any names, passwords, ages, phone numbers, school names, or locations. Don't post plans and activities on your site. Don't give out your password to anyone.
